Jeff was a cornerstone of Southern Pines for over two decades, joining us in 2003 after a distinguished career as Head Golf Professional at Brantford Golf & Country Club. He taught thousands of golfers the game, not just how to swing a club, but how to enjoy it. His focus was always on the fundamentals, keeping things simple, patient, and fun. Many of his students went on to play at the highest levels of the game. But to Jeff, the real reward was seeing someone improve, smile, and fall in love with golf.

More than an instructor, Jeff was a constant presence in the lives of our members and staff. He was always glad to see you, always ready with a story, and always willing to help.

Jeff passed away on April 3, 2026.

He leaves behind a legacy that lives on in every swing he shaped, every lesson he gave, and every person he encouraged.

He will be deeply missed by all of us at Southern Pines.

I came to Southern Pines as Owner / Head Professional in 1981 after serving my apprenticeship at Hamilton Golf Club under the watchful eyes of Dick Borthwick and Ken Steeves. Ken taught me the fine art of club repairs and most importantly golf merchandising both of which I have used over the 40+ years here at Southern Pines. I continue to learn and educate myself in the field of teaching and club fitting by attending yearly Golf Seminars and Teaching Summits taught by some of the world's sought after teachers such as Butch Harmon, Jim McLean and David Leadbetter. My dream was to add the Trackman4 to our facility and in 2019 we added an Indoor Golf Simulator area. This addition has taken our club fitting and teaching to the next level which I am very proud of.  Elaine and I are very blessed to have so many wonderful people in our Southern Pines Family!

Gord joined the team at Southern Pines in 2001 with a desire to teach golf while completing his Masters in Engineering. Gord's relaxed approach to teaching along with his Kinesiology degree allows him to tailor his teaching method to each student. Gord and his wife Mel enjoy their Sheep A Doodle family and many days you will see one of the \"kids\" helping Gord in the shop. We love having the \"kids\" along with Gord and Mel in our Southern Pines Family

 David Banks is passionate and committed to providing High-Performance Golf Coaching that delivers High-Performance Results! No matter your skill level we have coaching programs to suit your needs. Philosophy: David believes that if you endeavor to teach you must strive to learn. David has researched and possesses a keen understanding of brain and body learning science and motor skill development. Utilizing this knowledge David will evaluate your present skill and map out a prioritized program for your personal improvement. He applies this understanding to assist you in reaching your golfing goals faster.
